We did. We presented on journals the Radiatively Driven Circulation (RDC) theory and its applications to some problems. But look what happened in reality. Most people did not understand RDC correctly. And RDC has been ignored. We expected someone would subsequently develop the RDC research. But our wishes were not granted and the RDC research is stalled. We have learnt that we need to be directly involved in RDC research, so that at least when people misinterpret RDC we can correct them. Unfortunately, it is impossible to do so as an individual or from inside existing institutes.
There is another barrier to submitting papers. With no other supporting studies (and denying ones, either), we have to convince the jury panel. This is very difficult. In particular, it is obvious that if we suddenly present a parameterization without the support of further theoretical research and observations, it will be rejected as not being scientifically sound.
However, while explaining the RDC scheme, we realized that it is already at a mature stage. Unlike other parameter tuning based approaches, the RDC scheme is a logical method that starts from physical principles and does not need to consider the details of the real atmosphere. The consistency with the mass fluxes in the cumulus cloud, which we initially thought was necessary, can be logically implemented without parameter tuning, provided that full RDC is realized from the lower layers. As we found out, the only thing left to do was to verify that the RDC scheme actually works in a 3D atmospheric model.
Our aim is not to convert all researchers to RDC. We just want to find people who are interested in RDC, to make sure that they use it correctly, and to correct their misinterpretation and misuse. As the small achievements of the RDC scheme accumulate, it will eventually be able to mobilize the large climate research community. To do so, we had no choice but to present the RDC parameterization scheme as a product of a company. We retain copyrights to complete our objectives. We hope you feel our pain and understand us.
To the researchers of the time when we published our RDC analysis papers, our RDC theory, which was not based on cumulus dynamics, seemed strange. Apparently, it is common to dismiss strange theories on the basis of values other than logic. However, any strange idea should be eliminated only by logical discussion. At least, we found that RDC seems to be responsible for the transport in our simple model, and then we investigated the properties of RDC in a logical way. Based on the RDC theory, we are suspicious of the currently popular idea of Dynamical Detrainment and think that RDC has more potential.
Our experience to date has been that RDC has produced successful results physically, but not socially. Please contact us if you are interested in trying out the possibilities of the RDC scheme, after examining not only the main article A New Scheme of Cumulus Parameterization Based on RDC, but also other articles of Brief Considerations on RDC and References. We are happy to work with those who are interested. We just want to progress the RDC research in a free air. Thank you for understanding.
